Nicole was only 23 when she had a double mastectomy following a breast cancer diagnosis. After she recovered, Nicole got a chest tattoo that symbolizes how she wants to live life after cancer. Our bodies change over our lifetimes. Those changes can be dramatic and unsettling after an illness. Tattooing offers expanded possibilities for creative expression for women who have undergone mastectomies and breast reconstruction surgeries.

She’s a trained artist with a love for design. But Lisa Doll is focusing on a new kind of art with the opening of her tattoo shop in Ellicott City, hoping to heal through a unique form of art and ink.
“Just like paint on a canvas, you can use tattooing to go over something someone has lost and give them hope again,” Doll says.
